Game Recap: Dallas Stars at San Jose Sharks | 03/26/2024

The Dallas Stars traveled northwest to San Jose, Calif., to take on the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Stars won a wild game against the Sharks 6-3 at the SAP Center in the final game of the season series. Dallas improved to 45-19-9, while San Jose fell to 16-47-8.

The Stars’ starting lineup featured Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, Joe Pavelski, Thomas Harley , Jason Robertson, and Scott Wedgewood. Wedgewood made 18 saves for a win and is 1-0 as a father to his daughter Scarlett.

Meanwhile, Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made a whopping 35 saves in a losing effort.

The Stars took a one-goal lead midway through the first period. Wyatt Johnston scored a short-handed breakaway goal on a wrist shot for a 1-0 lead at 12:06 of the first. Jamie Benn collected the lone assist on Johnston’s 27th of the season.

The Stars doubled the lead late in the first period. Mason Marchment fired a wrist shot into the Sharks’ net to make it a 2-0 game at 16:28 of the first. Sam Steel collected the lone assist on Marchment’s 20th of the season.

The Stars led the Sharks 2-0 at the end of the first period. Dallas outshot San Jose 13-9 after 20 minutes.

The Stars wasted little time tripling the lead in the second period. Jason Robertson fired a wrist shot past Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood to extend the Stars’ lead to 3-0 just 14 seconds into the second. Robertson’s unassisted goal was his 25th of the season.

But the Sharks quickly ended the Stars’ shutout bid. Alexander Barabanov fired a wrist shot into the Stars’ net to cut the road team’s lead to 3-1 just 40 seconds later. William Eklund and Jan Rutta collected the assists on Barabanov’s fourth of the season.

The Sharks made it a one-goal game just eight seconds into Sam Steel’s holding penalty against Filip Zadina at 1:52 of the second period. William Eklund scored a power-play goal on a slap shot past Stars backup goalie Scott Wedgewood to cut the Stars’ lead to 3-2 at 2:00 of the second. Thomas Bordeleau and Mikael Granlund collected the assists on Eklund’s 12th of the season.

Stars captain Jamie Benn batted in a goal out of mid-air to get a six-game goal streak and put the Stars up 4-2 at 8:05 of the second period. Wyatt Johnston and Nils Lundkvist collected the assists on Benn’s 17th of the season.

The Sharks made it a one-goal game again. Klim Kostin blasted a snap shot into the Stars’ net to cut the road team’s lead to 4-3 at 8:58 of the second period. Mikael Granlund collected the lone assist on Kostin’s sixth of the season.

But the Stars regained a two-goal lead. Wyatt Johnston netted a backhand shot to extend the Stars’ lead to 5-3 at 10:13 of the second period. Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski collected the assists on Johnston’s 28th of the season and second of the game.

The Stars brought a 5-3 lead to the locker room at the end of two periods. Dallas outshot San Jose 29-17 through 40 minutes.

The Stars opened the third-period scoring just seconds after Mario Ferraro’s holding penalty against Ty Dellandrea at 11:04. Jason Robertson scored a power-play goal on a wrist shot to expand the Stars’ lead to 6-3 at 11:45 of the third period. Miro Heiskanen and Roope Hintz collected the assists on Robertson’s 26th of the season and second of the game.

The Stars won a wild game against the Sharks 6-3 in regulation that they didn’t trail. Dallas outshot San Jose 41-22 after a full 60 minutes.

New Signing
On Monday, the Stars signed Ben Kraws (goaltender) to a one-year, entry-level contract that will start in the 2024-25 season. Kraws, 23, posted a 14-17-6 record with a 2.49 goals-against average, .919 save percentage, and two shutouts in 37 appearances for the NCAA’s St. Lawrence University in the 2023-24 season, and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award for the NCAA’s top men’s ice hockey player of the year. Kraws also went 4-1 in the ECAC Hockey Championships, leading the No. 7-ranked Saints to the championship game against No. 2-ranked Cornell.
