Former NFL Star Has Strong Feelings About Bo Nix’s Broncos Fit
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos selected quarterback Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick of the NFL Draft last month, and while some think Sean Payton’s Broncos are a great fit for the incoming rookie, former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings disagrees.

During an episode of FS1’s The Carton Show on Monday morning, Jennings said he likes Nix, but questioned the fit of the young signal-caller in Denver.

Jennings went on to say that he actually picked the Broncos to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl last year, but that obviously did not occur.

So, just how good of a fit is Nix in the Mile High City?

Well, one thing we do know is that Payton has done great work at the quarterback position in the past, namely with Drew Brees.

Jennings said one thing Payton loved about Brees was that he was always on schedule, which is an area in which Nix excelled at the University of Oregon.

That was one of the biggest problems between Payton and Russell Wilson last season, as Wilson likes to make plays out of the pocket.

What exactly, then, is the issue with Nix’s fit in Denver?

Perhaps Jennings is simply not crazy about the personnel around Nix.

The Broncos actually have a couple of decent receivers in Courtland Sutton and the recently-acquired Josh Reynolds, but they don’t really have a true No. 1 guy at the position. Denver also does not have a very good offensive line, and its rushing offense ranked a very average 18th in the NFL last season.

But maybe Nix can remedy some of those issues on his own?

The 24-year-old is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 234 yards and six scores.

Nix began his collegiate career at Auburn in 2019 and spent three seasons there before transferring to Oregon in 2022.

He had a very impressive debut season with the Ducks, totaling 3,593 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven picks while completing 71.9 percent of his throws. In addition, he registered 510 yards and 14 scores on the ground.

The Broncos have been starving for a franchise quarterback ever since Peyton Manning retired following the 2015-16 campaign. We’ll see if Bo Nix can finally represent the answer for the organization.
